Armed Robbers Attack University of Ibadan Hostel, Students Dispossessed of Valuables

Date:

Armed robbers stormed the Awolowo Hall of Residence at the University of Ibadan in the early hours of Saturday, carting away valuables belonging to students.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, who operated for several hours, made away with mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other personal items. Some students were reportedly tortured during the attack.

A student, speaking anonymously, described the ordeal as terrifying. “Aside from the lost items, the affected students were tortured during the raids that lasted for a few hours,” he said.

The university’s security unit was alerted by the screams of students and responded swiftly. Some suspects were reportedly apprehended and handed over to the police at Sango Police Station for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Joke Akinpelu, stated, “The reports from the Hall wardens indicated that the robbers carted away mobile phones belonging to students.”

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for further details were unsuccessful as of press time.

The attack has raised fresh concerns over the security of students on campus, with many calling for enhanced safety measures to prevent future incidents.
