Onitsha Residents Applaud Ongoing Drainage Desilting Along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

Date:

Residents of Onitsha metropolis have commended the ongoing desilting of drainage channels along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, praising the efforts to prevent water blockage and erosion in the area.

The project, which began last month, is being handled by MACkTWO Resources. Speaking on behalf of the firm’s manager, Chief Ekene Onyebuchi, the contract supervisor, Mr. Chinwuba Ezeama, explained that the work covers the stretch from the Building Materials Market through the New Motor Spare Parts Market down to Upper Iweka. He emphasized the need for clear drainage channels to ensure proper flood management, especially during the rainy season.

Chief Onyebuchi urged the government to establish monitoring bodies to prevent indiscriminate waste dumping, which often leads to recurring blockages.

A staff member of the firm, Mr. Chukwuebuka Offor, revealed that over 50 workers and more than 30 tippers have been deployed for the evacuation of waste. He encouraged residents to refrain from indiscriminate refuse disposal, aligning with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a clean and livable state.

Commuters and residents, including Chibueze Nwafor, Charley Otuede, Onyemechi Onoh, and Loveth Okeh, lauded the initiative, admiring the improved condition of the area. They also urged bus drivers to provide waste bins in their vehicles to curb littering, contributing to the state’s transformation into a smart mega city.
