Anambra State Government Denies Fake News on Alleged Arrest of Women

Date:

The Anambra State Government has dismissed as false a viral claim alleging that it has begun arresting women for walking around without bras and underwear.

In a statement issued on February 17, 2025, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, described the news as “malicious and entirely false,” urging the public to disregard it. He emphasized that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, is committed to protecting citizens’ rights and does not interfere in personal choices regarding clothing.

While the government encourages decent dressing, Aburime noted that such matters remain private and are protected under the Nigerian Constitution. He warned against the spread of misinformation, which could cause unnecessary panic and misrepresent the state’s leadership.

The Anambra government reiterated its focus on key governance priorities, including security, economic transformation, and urban regeneration, and urged the public to rely on official channels for verified information.
