Sunshine Stars, Queens Triumph in Ondo State FA Cup

Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens of Akure have emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories of the 2024/25 Ondo State FA Cup, securing their spots in the national President Federation Cup.

In the women’s final held on Sunday in Ondo town, Sunshine Queens defeated Onimarg FC of Akure 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic 3-3 draw in regulation time. The men’s final saw Sunshine Stars claim victory over their U-19 team, winning 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw.

Following their performances, all four finalist teams have qualified to represent Ondo State at the national level.

Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association, Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, congratulated the teams and urged them to prepare for the upcoming Federation Cup competition.

“Congratulations to you all; you have proven yourselves worthy champions. I encourage you to train hard and represent Ondo State with distinction when the national tournament begins,” he said.

Dele-Ajayi commended the teams for their resilience and sportsmanship, expressing confidence in their ability to compete at the national level.

The tournament showcased the depth of football talent in Ondo State, and attention will now shift to how the teams perform on the national stage.
