Awka South Hosts Inaugural Women Entrepreneurship Conference

Date:

The inaugural Awka South Women Entrepreneurship Conference has been successfully held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia. The event, organized by the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, Amawbia, received support from the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Chukwumma Okoye.

The conference aimed to equip participants with essential entrepreneurial knowledge, helping them develop their skills, expand their businesses, and turn ideas into successful ventures. The goal is to empower women, benefiting not just their families but also the broader society.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Okey Cyril-Nwuche, Proprietor of the Centre for Innovation and Creativity, emphasized the importance of providing women with entrepreneurship education rather than just material aid, which often goes underutilized. He urged the government to support both startups and existing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to drive economic growth.

In his address, Deputy Speaker Okoye highlighted the vital role women play in the economy despite the challenges they face. He noted that his support for the program aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of fostering economic self-reliance among young people.

The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, APGA Chairman for Awka South, Barrister Lawrence Chukwumma, and the Leader of the Congress of Councillors in the LGA, Mrs. Joy Okonkwo.

Participants benefited from a series of entrepreneurship lectures led by Lady Devine Njideka, and certificates were presented to both guests and attendees.
