Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, has sought stronger collaboration with the media to promote women’s inheritance rights and end gender-based violence and harmful widowhood practices.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, made this known during an advocacy visit to Wazobia FM and Sapientia Media in Onitsha.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Chinwe Achugbu, the commissioner said the partnership aligns with the theme of the 2025 International Women’s Day, *Accelerate Action*, which aims to educate the public on laws that protect women’s dignity and advance their cause.
An Executive Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hope Okoye, acknowledged the media’s role in raising awareness on gender-based issues and called for a more robust collaboration.
She outlined the key activities for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, including a walk for life, a prayer session, and a lecture series.
The Station Manager of Wazobia FM, Onitsha, Mr Moses Okonkwo, and the Chief Executive Officer of Sapientia Media, Reverend Father Aloy Orakwe, assured the ministry of their readiness to collaborate on the outlined activities.
