Soludo: My Focus is on Progress, Not Competition

Date:

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving governance rather than competing with past administrations. He made this statement during a thanksgiving mass marking his third year in office at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Awka.

In his sermon, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, commended Soludo’s leadership and urged him to focus on consolidating progress rather than engaging in comparisons. Kukah noted that each successive governor in Anambra had contributed uniquely to the state’s growth.

Responding, Soludo said, “We are not in competition with anyone. Our goal is to build on the achievements of past governors, not to outshine them.”

Highlighting his administration’s efforts, Soludo pointed to infrastructure improvements, the employment of over 8,000 teachers, and the provision of free antenatal and delivery services to over 102,000 women, including those from neighboring states.

He emphasized Anambra’s ambition to compete with global standards like the Dubai-Taiwan model, not past administrations. “We are contesting against the revolution happening globally,” he said.

Soludo also cited improved road networks and a reduction in government expenditure, stating that Anambra spent only 65% of what previous administrations spent in their first three years.

On security, Soludo stressed the importance of tackling insecurity from its roots and called on citizens to report criminal activities. “If you know any criminal anywhere, just whisper to us, and we will come and pick them,” he assured.

The governor reiterated his vision for a prosperous, crime-free Anambra driven by enterprise and innovation.
