NSCDC Anambra Strengthens Partnership With NCCSALW to Combat Illegal Arms

Date:

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in efforts to curb the spread of illicit firearms.

This was highlighted on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Awka when Major General Okechukwu Ugo (rtd), the South East Zonal Director of the NCCSALW, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters.

During the visit, NSCDC Anambra State Commandant Maku Olatunde assured the delegation of the corps’ full support for the NCCSALW’s mission. He emphasized that the control of small arms falls within the NSCDC’s mandate as directed by the Federal Government, stressing the importance of collaboration with relevant agencies to tackle the issue effectively.

Commandant Olatunde expressed concern over the increasing number of illicit firearms in the hands of non-state actors, linking it to the rise in violent crimes. He commended the NCCSALW’s efforts in tracking and controlling illegal weapons and pledged continued cooperation to rid society of such threats and enhance public safety.

In response, Major General Okechukwu Ugo (rtd) stated that his visit aimed to foster a stronger working relationship with the NSCDC. He underscored the importance of joint efforts in mitigating the proliferation of arms, noting that the NCCSALW is responsible for recovering and neutralizing illegal weapons.

“Our goal is to establish a coordinated approach with the NSCDC to sustain efforts in removing illicit arms from circulation and ensuring peaceful coexistence in the country,” he said.
