Court Confirms Okonkwo as Legitimate Traditional Ruler of Alor

Date:

The High Court in Ogidi has upheld Igwe Mac-Anthony Okonkwo as the authentic traditional ruler of Alor Community, dismissing a legal challenge against him for lack of merit and incompetence.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Chukwudi Nwankwo ruled in favor of Igwe Okonkwo, marking the fourth failed court attempt by some individuals, including Uzoma Igbonwa and Ifeanyi Obiazi, to challenge his leadership.

Reacting to the ruling, Igwe Okonkwo expressed gratitude to God, stating that the victory was not just his but for the entire Alor community. He reaffirmed that the town’s traditional throne is rotational and noted that he has been on the throne for 11 years.

Chief Chukwuemeka Ikegwuogu, a member of the Igwe’s cabinet, praised the judiciary for upholding justice and urged the people of Alor to support their ruler, whom he described as a man of peace.

Another indigene, Dr. Dominic Chigozie, reflected on the long legal battle and encouraged Igwe Okonkwo to continue his good works for the community.

Upon his return from court, a 21-gun salute was fired in parts of Alor to celebrate his victory.
