Fire Razes Warehouses in Onitsha Market, Traders Count Losses

Traders at Hippo Warehouse on Ifejirika Street, Sokoto Road, Main Market, Onitsha, were left devastated as a fire outbreak destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

Eyewitness Emmanuel Ogenyi reported that the fire started around 4 a.m. in a flat nearby before spreading to surrounding buildings and warehouses. He commended the swift response of firefighters, who arrived with two tankers to battle the flames.

Another trader, Innocent Umealajekwu, lamented the massive losses suffered by traders, stating that the affected warehouses contained polyester materials, clothing, and bales of fabric worth millions. He praised those who managed to salvage some goods amid the chaos.

As of the time of this report, firefighters were still working to completely put out the fire.
