Abia First Lady Urges Stakeholders to Ensure Grassroots Coverage in Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign

Date:

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has called on critical stakeholders to ensure that the upcoming Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign reaches the grassroots.

Addressing a meeting in Umuahia on Friday, Mrs. Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Arungwa, tasked the wives of mayors and community leaders with mobilizing parents and caregivers for the campaign’s flag-off. She urged them to seek support from their husbands, traditional rulers, and faith-based organizations for effective sensitization and smooth implementation.

“As mothers and community leaders, we have a shared responsibility to protect the health of our children,” she said. “Too many lives have been lost to vaccine-preventable diseases, and we cannot allow misinformation to hinder a healthier future.”

She debunked myths surrounding the vaccine, emphasizing its safety and effectiveness. She urged stakeholders to use their influence to correct falsehoods discouraging parents from vaccinating their children.

The Director of the State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr. Kalu Kalu, and the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, represented by his Permanent Secretary, Chris Onwuegbu, reiterated the importance of ensuring the campaign reaches all communities.
