Anambra Police, Tourism Ministry Collaborate with Bar Owners to Boost Security at Entertainment Hubs

The Anambra State Police Command has joined forces with the Ministry of Tourism to enhance security in entertainment and tourism hotspots across the state, with a particular focus on Club Road in Awka. The initiative was marked by a strategic meeting held on April 10, 2025, at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka, where the Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, hosted members of the Anambra State Restaurant and Bar Owners Association.

CP Orutugu revealed that intelligence reports have identified some bars and lounges as gathering spots for criminal elements. He called on business owners to be more vigilant, collaborate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities promptly. He also announced plans for increased police patrols and upgraded surveillance systems to prevent crime and respond swiftly to any threats.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Don Onyeji, praised the police for the initiative and pledged the ministry’s continued support. He highlighted the state’s diverse tourist sites, such as Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and the Igbo Ukwu Museum, emphasizing their importance in promoting Anambra’s cultural heritage and natural attractions.

Representatives of the Restaurant and Bar Owners Association welcomed the partnership and committed to implementing security directives issued during the meeting.

Key attendees included Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel; Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State Intelligence, ACP Tochukwu Umeh; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security (Anti-Cultism), Hon Kingsley Ezika; and other senior members of the association.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening community engagement as part of efforts to ensure public safety and security.
