Fashion Legend Giorgio Armani Dies at 91

Date:

Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani, whose timeless elegance transformed global fashion and built a multibillion-dollar empire, has died at the age of 91 in his Milan home.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of his iconic label. Armani had been expected to lead anniversary celebrations at Milan Fashion Week, but his absence from June’s menswear shows—the first time in decades—had already raised concerns about his health.

The Armani Group confirmed his passing in a statement on Thursday, describing him as the brand’s “tireless driving force” who remained committed to his craft until the very end. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections and the many ongoing projects,” the company said.

According to his wishes, a private funeral will be held, while a public memorial is planned this weekend at the Armani/Teatro in Milan.

Armani, whose fortune Forbes estimated at $12.1 billion, was one of the most influential designers of the past 50 years. His minimalist but refined tailoring redefined fashion, ushering in a new era of relaxed sophistication that influenced Hollywood red carpets, corporate wardrobes, and the film industry.
