How Sound Sultan’s Death Affected My Music Career – Seyi Shay

Date:

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Seyi Shay, has revealed how the passing of legendary musician Sound Sultan left a lasting impact on her life and music career.

In a recent interview, the singer described Sound Sultan as more than just a colleague, calling him a mentor, best friend, and father figure. She explained that his sudden death in 2021 shook her deeply and made her lose interest in pursuing music at the time.

Sound Sultan’s death really affected me. He was my everything in the industry. When he passed, I just didn’t have the zeal for music anymore,” she confessed.

The award-winning artist added that her grief coincided with a major transition in her personal life. She was pregnant with her daughter and simultaneously navigating the challenges of motherhood and a highly demanding entertainment industry.

According to Seyi Shay, the combination of losing a trusted guide and facing a “toxic” side of the music business pushed her into taking a long break from the spotlight.

Her candid revelation has sparked conversations among fans and fellow entertainers about the importance of mentorship, emotional well-being, and support systems within the Nigerian music industry.

Sound Sultan, born Olanrewaju Fasasi, was celebrated for his socially conscious lyrics and unique artistry. His death in July 2021 left the Nigerian entertainment community in mourning.
