Nigerian Man Stands Guard Outside Church During Vigil Over Bandit Fears

Date:

A Nigerian man recently gained attention online for choosing to remain outside a church during a night vigil rather than joining the service indoors.

The incident was shared in a video on his TikTok account, @ojugo_1, which has since gone viral. In the clip, he is seen standing outside with friends while other worshippers sit inside the church.

The man explained that he prefers staying outside as a precaution against potential bandit attacks. He gestures toward the church’s fence and gate, noting that he could quickly exit through them if necessary.

The video’s caption reads: “So we dey one church vigil like this. Omo, na outside I go dey o. I go dey outside.”

The post comes shortly after a tragic attack at a church in Kwara State. On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, gunmen attacked the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku during the evening service, killing three worshippers and injuring several others.

Following the attack, the pastor and some congregants were abducted. A church official reported that 38 members were kidnapped, with the attackers demanding a ransom of 100 million naira per person. Eyewitnesses described the assailants as bandits who emerged from the nearby bush, fired sporadically, and fled when the police and local vigilante groups arrived.
