Don Jazzy Explains Why He Left His Car With U.K Police After Impound

Date:

Nigerian music producer and industry executive Don Jazzy has addressed a past police incident in the United Kingdom, clarifying details that recently resurfaced.

The matter came to light after his former collaborator, Bankulli, shared a story at an event, claiming Don Jazzy had evaded the law following a car accident in the UK during the early stages of his career. According to Bankulli, Don Jazzy allegedly removed his car’s license plate and left the scene after police arrived.

Bankulli reportedly said: “I chose not to include this in the Afrobeats documentary. Don Jazzy was trying to make it in London when he had an accident after falling asleep while driving. He abandoned the car and removed the plate because towing it would have cost more than repairing it. Look at him now he owns multiple cars.”

The story sparked concern on social media, with one user on X expressing worry that a decades-old case could be reopened if Don Jazzy visited the UK. “With Bankulli saying this, I hope Don Jazzy isn’t planning a trip to London. They could reopen a 20-year-old case!” the user wrote.

Don Jazzy, however, set the record straight, assuring fans that he did not flee from the police. He explained that he waited for the authorities, who administered a breathalyser test and confirmed he was not intoxicated. His car was later impounded, and he left it because retrieving it would have cost more than its value.

He clarified: “Lol, no panic. It’s been so long, so the story isn’t exactly accurate. I actually waited for the police. They gave me a breathalyser; I wasn’t drunk. But the car was impounded. The fine to get it back was higher than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol.”
