Akwa Ibom State Government nabs and charges masquerade to court days after Gov. Umo’s order

Date:

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have apprehended a man, David Effiong, who was spotted in full masquerade regalia allegedly disrupting public peace in defiance of a recent order issued by the State Governor, Umo Eno.

The arrest follows a directive from the State Governor days earlier, stating that “Any masquerade seen parading the streets of Akwa Ibom State will be arrested and prosecuted.”

The police took Effiong into custody, and he is reportedly set to be charged to court accordingly for violating the public order.

The Governor’s stern warning and the subsequent police action underscore the state government’s commitment to curb potential security breaches and disruptions often associated with uncontrolled street parading.
