The Anambra State High Court, presided over by Justice Jude Obiorah, has adjourned to April 11, 2025, the case involving three well-known native doctors accused of engaging in criminal activities, including the preparation of Oke-ite.
The accused are Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as Onyeze Jesus; Chidozie Nwangwu, known as Akwa Okuko; and Ekene Igboekweze, also known as Eke Hit. The court adjourned the matter to allow for proper service of court processes and the arraignment of the defendants.
Following the proceedings, one of the defence counsels, Remigus Okoli, told reporters that the state government’s move to have the defendants remanded was premature, stressing that the law requires that accused persons be adequately served and given sufficient time to prepare their defence.
He expressed confidence that the law would favour the accused in the ongoing legal process.
Efforts to obtain comments from the state government’s legal team, led by F. C. Okeke, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
