Anambra Stakeholders Demand Re-Arrest of Escaped Suspects in Lawmaker’s Murder

Date:

Stakeholders in Anambra State have called on the state police command to urgently re-arrest the two suspected killers of the late Honourable Justice Azuka, who escaped from custody just days after his burial. They warned that failure to do so would further damage public trust in the Nigerian Police Force.

Speaking in Awka, the immediate past Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, condemned the escape, describing it as an act of sabotage against Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security efforts. He stressed that the police must swiftly apprehend the fugitives to restore credibility.

Chief Okeke-Ogene also advocated for continuous training of police officers and stronger support for the Agunechemba security outfit to enhance security across the state.

Echoing similar concerns, an Awka stakeholder, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim, criticized the police for what he described as gross incompetence and unprofessional handling of the case. He alleged that the escape could have been orchestrated and questioned how high-profile suspects were left unrestrained.

Chief Ochije-Modilim urged the newly appointed Anambra Commissioner of Police to take decisive action in re-arresting the suspects without delay to safeguard his reputation and that of the police force.
