The Strengthening Public Accountability for Results and Knowledge (SPARK 2) Campaign, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Health, convened a one-day multi-stakeholder strategic dialogue and reflection meeting in Awka. The event brought together representatives from state and local governments, community primary healthcare centers (PHCs), and various PHC actors to discuss improving healthcare delivery through accountability and innovation.
In his address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, emphasized the commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to prioritizing the health needs of Anambra residents. He stated that the meeting aimed to review policy frameworks within the state’s healthcare sector, particularly in primary healthcare, to enhance service delivery through improved accountability and efficiency.
Dr. Obidike assured participants that they had been equipped with the necessary tools, including clear guidelines on reporting structures and access to critical information. He urged them to remain dedicated to their roles in ensuring effective healthcare services across the state.
Mrs. Ugochi Ehiahuruike, Executive Director of the Social and Integral Development Centre and International Budget Partnership in Anambra State, highlighted the purpose of the dialogue. She explained that the meeting was designed to foster collaboration, share innovative ideas, and develop strategies to improve the quality of healthcare services in the future. According to her, the focus was on adopting new and creative approaches to address existing challenges in the sector.
Chief Godwin Ezedinobi, a participant from Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area, praised Governor Soludo for the remarkable transformation in the state’s health sector. He noted that primary healthcare services have become more accessible and efficient, benefiting communities across Anambra.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo; the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem; Ward Development Committee Chairmen; Health Supervisors; Directors of Health; and representatives from non-governmental and civil society organizations.
