Anambra State Marks International Women’s Day with Calls for Positive Action

The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, has commemorated the 2025 International Women’s Day in Awka, urging women to be agents of change in their communities.

Held in collaboration with Supporters of Good Governance (SoGG), the event drew participants from the 21 local government areas, including religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and dignitaries from various sectors.

The celebration began with a prayer session for divine guidance on Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and concluded with a resolution prohibiting all forms of fake Eze Nwanyi practices and unregulated native doctor activities in the state.

In her remarks, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, commended the women for their participation and urged them to be role models, particularly in raising morally upright children.

Speakers at the event included Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, CEO of Seahorse Lubricant, Nollywood actress Ngozi Ezeonu, and Professor Ngozi Ikechebelu. Survivors of sexual and gender-based violence also shared their testimonies, expressing gratitude to Governor Soludo for his swift interventions and pledging their support for his administration.

The event featured a march past by SoGG members across all local government areas, alongside drama performances, cultural dances, and ode presentations.
