Women across Anambra State joined the global commemoration of International Women’s Day, gathering in large numbers at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center to mark the occasion.

Organized by the Anambra Ministry of Women and Social Welfare in partnership with Supporters of Good Governance, the event brought together various women’s groups from organizations, churches, and communities. Discussions centered on the international theme, “Accelerating Action,” and the state theme, “Say No to Rascality.”

Dignitaries in attendance included top government officials, members of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council led by Chairman Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi, and Nollywood personalities.

Representing the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the state Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, highlighted policies aimed at improving the lives of women. She urged them to seek economic empowerment to become self-reliant and contribute to societal development.

Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, encouraged women to embrace their roles as agents of change by raising children with strong moral values. Other speakers, including Bishop Onyekachukwu Nzekwesi of Jesus Is Alive Church and Nollywood actress Lady Ngozi Ezeonu, echoed similar sentiments while commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his initiatives to enhance the welfare of women in the state.
