APC Anambra Governorship Primary Marred by Resignation and Withdrawal

Date:

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Anambra State governorship election, the exercise, scheduled for Saturday, has been overshadowed by notable resignations and withdrawals.

Chukwuma Umeoji, a leading aspirant, announced his withdrawal from the race, citing consultations with his supporters across the state. He described his decision as one made in good faith.

In a separate development, Paul Chukwuma, a foundation member of the party and former National Auditor, resigned his membership of APC. Chukwuma formally communicated his resignation through a letter to the chairman of his Umueri Ward 2. In the letter, Chukwuma expressed his decision to disconnect from the party as part of efforts to build a broader political movement in Anambra State that supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his resignation letter, he wrote: “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of APC. My decision finds expression in the quest to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-encompassing political movement within Anambra State in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He also extended gratitude for the leadership provided over the years, assuring continued support for progressive ideas, and affirmed his commitment to realizing a safer and more prosperous Anambra.

Meanwhile, in a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Umeoji’s withdrawal was acknowledged, with the party thanking him for his dedication to the party both in Anambra State and nationally. The statement also expressed hope that Umeoji would support the eventual party candidate for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State gubernatorial election.
