Atiku Abubakar Dismisses Defection Rumors, Reaffirms Commitment to PDP

Date:

Former Vice President and ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has denied reports suggesting he is planning to leave the party.

Speculations had surfaced that Atiku was finalizing plans to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but his media office dismissed the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement on Saturday, his media team described the reports as an attempt to create confusion amid ongoing efforts to build a broad opposition coalition.

“We wish to clarify that the so-called news of Atiku defecting to another party is a total fallacy that holds no merit in logic,” the statement read.

It further emphasized that Atiku remains a committed member of the PDP and that his coalition efforts aim to unite opposition parties, not abandon the PDP.

“It is fallacious and unfounded to allege that the Waziri is jumping the PDP ship. Such an allegation contradicts the objective of the grand coalition, which the former Vice President is currently driving alongside other prominent political leaders in the country.”

The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the defection rumors, calling them a distraction from the larger goal of strengthening the opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
