Delta State Suspends Two Teachers for Fighting, Assigns Toilet Cleaning as Punishment

Date:

Two teachers at Ibru College, Agbarha-Otor, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have been suspended and ordered to clean staff toilets for one month after being found guilty of fighting on school premises.

The teachers, identified as Mr. Agofure R. and Mr. Etuh G., were also recommended for transfer to other public schools to maintain discipline within the institution. In addition, they have been directed to report to the Ughelli Zonal Office of the Delta State Post-Primary Education Board for further questioning.

Pending the board’s final decision, the state government has suspended both teachers from duty. The school’s disciplinary committee condemned their actions as a violation of professional ethics and imposed the sanctions accordingly.

Following the incident, Mr. Etuh G. was also ordered to vacate his official quarters within the school compound within a month.

Confirming the disciplinary measures, the school’s principal, Mr. Akporube L.O., emphasized Ibru College’s zero-tolerance policy on staff misconduct and reiterated the importance of professionalism in the teaching profession.

Reacting to the development, a Senior Lecturer at Southern Delta University, Dr. Precious Omoruwou, criticized the teachers’ actions and attributed the incident to flaws in the recruitment process for educators. She stressed the need for continuous training and retraining of teachers to ensure they uphold high ethical standards and serve as positive role models for students.
