Doctor Who Collapsed After 72-Hour Shift Is Buried in Port Harcourt

The remains of Dr. Oluwafemi Rotifa, a 28-year-old resident doctor at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) who reportedly died after working a 72-hour stretch without rest, have been laid to rest. He was buried on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Port Harcourt cemetery. Rotifa, a former president of the Port Harcourt University Medical Students’ Association (PUMSA), has been mourned widely, with his passing sparking grief and outrage in Nigeria’s health sector. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has announced plans to conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Photos from the funeral have since emerged online.
