The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, alongside social media platforms 𝕏 (Twitter) and Meta (Facebook).
According to court documents, Sowore allegedly used his accounts on both platforms on August 25 and 26, 2025, to call President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” and accuse him of dishonesty over corruption during an official visit to Brazil.
The DSS claims the posts were false, defamatory, and capable of causing public disorder, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act 2024 and the Criminal Code Act.
The charges include spreading false information, defaming the president, and publishing content intended to incite fear and disturb public peace.
