First Lady Empowers Over 200 Anambra Residents Through Agricultural Support Initiative

Date:

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered over 200 individuals in Anambra State under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Program.

The initiative, a medium-scale agro-support scheme, targets individuals passionate about agro-business across various age groups. Beneficiaries underwent two days of practical training in feed processing, drip irrigation installation, vegetable farming, and piggery.

At the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, where the empowerment items were distributed, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, who represented the First Lady, explained that beneficiaries were selected through a transparent, random process. The selection ensured equal representation from women groups, youth organizations, political associations, and school clubs.

Mrs Soludo emphasized that the Renewed Hope Initiative prioritizes economic empowerment, supporting women and youths across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in line with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, noted that the initiative would drive agricultural transformation in the state, adding that beneficiaries would be monitored to ensure proper utilization of the tools and knowledge acquired.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, described the initiative as a step towards helping people make a direct impact on their lives through agriculture.

Some beneficiaries, including Queen Anigbogu, Raphael Onwughalu, Chinyere Udeozor, and Hillary Obiajulu, expressed gratitude, saying the tools would significantly boost their agricultural practices.

The distribution of empowerment items and cash support to beneficiaries marked the highpoint of the ceremony.
