Mercy Chinwo sues VeryDarkMan for defamation, demands N1bn damages

Date:

Popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a defamation lawsuit against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The lawsuit stems from VDM’s social media posts accusing Chinwo of diverting $345,000 from a contractual dispute involving her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.

Chinwo, through her lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi, is demanding N1 billion in general damages, N100 million in aggravated damages, and N25 million as the cost of the suit.

The singer also seeks a court order compelling VDM to delete the defamatory posts, issue a public apology on social media, and publish retractions in four national newspapers for 14 consecutive days.

Chinwo presented documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to refute the allegations and protect her reputation.

The case is ongoing.
