NAFDAC Flags Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles, Issues Public Warning

Date:

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public health alert cautioning Nigerians against consuming a recalled batch of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles over the presence of undeclared allergens.

According to the agency, the warning follows a recall notice issued by French food safety authorities, Rappel Conso, after tests revealed that the product contains milk and egg allergens that were not listed on the label. NAFDAC noted that the omission poses a serious health risk to individuals who are allergic or intolerant to these substances.

The agency explained that undeclared allergens such as milk and eggs can trigger severe allergic reactions, including breathing difficulties and other potentially life-threatening responses. It stressed that accurate product labelling is essential for consumer safety, particularly for people with known food allergies.

Although the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of noodles reduces the likelihood of the affected product entering Nigeria, NAFDAC said the risk cannot be completely ruled out. The agency warned that such products may still find their way into the country through illegal importation, online shopping platforms, or international travellers.

In response, NAFDAC has stepped up nationwide monitoring and surveillance to prevent the recalled Indomie noodles from circulating in local markets. Distributors, retailers, and other players in the food supply chain have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid the sale or distribution of the affected product.

Consumers who may already have the recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles were strongly advised not to consume them. NAFDAC also urged members of the public to report any suspected sale or circulation of the product to the agency to enable prompt regulatory action and safeguard public health.
