Nurse Testifies on Mohbad’s Death at Coroner’s Inquiry

Date:

Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse, testified before the coroner’s inquiry into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

Ogedengbe, who trained at Cornerstone Hospital in Ogun State, revealed that she was contacted on September 11, 2023, by Ayobami Sodiq, also known as “Spending,” to administer a tetanus injection to a friend who had sustained a hand injury. Due to heavy traffic, she arrived the following day at Mohbad’s residence in Lekki, Lagos.

She administered a tetanus shot and, after confirming that Mohbad had an ulcer, opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac. However, Mohbad began to feel nauseous and developed goosebumps. His wife assured Ogedengbe that this was a typical reaction to injections.

Efforts to secure hydrocortisone and saline infusion for treatment were delayed due to traffic and lack of availability at a nearby pharmacy. When Ogedengbe and Ayobami returned, Mohbad had already been moved outside the house.

Mohbad was eventually transported to the hospital on a motorbike due to heavy traffic. Upon arrival, the first hospital’s staff initially hesitated to treat him but later attempted CPR before declaring him dead. The nurse explained the medication she administered to the attending doctor.

Despite being taken to a second hospital, Mohbad was refused entry, and medical personnel confirmed the absence of a pulse. Ogedengbe recounted that efforts to obtain a death certificate led them to the police station, where officers inquired whether Mohbad’s lawyer and Ayobami wanted an investigation.

The case has been adjourned to March 21, 2025, for further hearing.
