“Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle”- 33-years-old Ahmed Musa Retires From Super Eagles

Date:

Ahmed Musa has officially retired from international football at age 33, ending a legendary 15-year career with the Super Eagles. He confirmed the news on Wednesday, December 17, after earning a record-breaking 111 caps for Nigeria.

Musa reflected on his early days when he balanced the U-20, U-23, and senior teams simultaneously. He shared, “I was just a young boy when the journey started… Whenever Nigeria called, I showed up. It was never something I had to think twice about.” He noted that becoming the most capped player in the nation’s history is an honor he holds with “deep respect.”

His career was filled with historic milestones, including winning the 2013 AFCON and becoming Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer. “Scoring at the World Cup, against Argentina and Iceland, are memories I will always carry with me,” he said. Musa added that winning the 2013 trophy will always stand out as a highlight of what it means to play for Nigeria.

Stepping away with a sense of peace, Musa thanked his teammates, coaches, and the fans for their support. He concluded his message by saying, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. Thank you, Nigeria. Thank you for everything.” While he is done with the national team, he remains active in club football as the general manager and a player for Kano Pillars.
