Shola Allyson Addresses Why She Rarely Mentions Jesus in Songs

Date:

Nigerian singer Shola Allyson has addressed the content of her music, clarifying that she does not identify as a gospel singer and revealing why she rarely references Jesus in her lyrics.

During a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Allyson stated that her focus is on creating music inspired by personal convictions rather than adhering to religious expectations.

“I’m not a religious singer. As I am, I have never introduced myself as a gospel singer. My name is Shola Allyson. I’m a singer,” she said.

Responding to critics, the singer emphasized that her music is not intended to serve as public relations for Christ:

“Jesus did not instruct us to mention His name in songs, nor did Jesus ask us to do PR for Him,” she added.

Allyson also opened up about her personal life, revealing that her 2003 marriage to Toyin Obaniyi has faced major challenges, and she now lives in a separate home from her husband, with whom she shares three children.

“Marriage has been a big challenge. I hear people talk about joy in marriage, but I have never experienced it,”

“I can do anything for a man as long as he does not maltreat me.” she admitted.
