Soludo Calls for Genuine Christian Values, Plans Initiative for Elderly Care

Date:

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has raised concerns over the growing transactional nature of Christianity, emphasizing the need to revive its core values of empathy and care for the vulnerable.

Speaking at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Ekwulobia, during the fifth anniversary celebration of the Diocese, Soludo announced that the Anambra State Government would soon launch the “Buy Yourself Old Age” initiative. The project aims to support the elderly and vulnerable, aligning with a similar effort by the Ekwulobia Diocese to establish a welfare home for senior citizens.

The governor stressed that his administration prioritizes the welfare of the poor and elderly, highlighting that land had already been secured for the state’s initiative. He assured the diocese of the government’s partnership to ensure the project’s success.

Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke, expressed gratitude for the church’s growth despite challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized that the welfare home would serve people regardless of language, denomination, or tribe.

The event was attended by notable figures, including APGA National Chairman Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa and Ihiala Federal Constituency representative, Hon. Paschal Agbodike.
