Three Arrested for Impersonating Revenue Officers in Onitsha

Date:

The Anambra State Government has arrested three individuals for allegedly impersonating revenue officers and extorting money from motorists in Onitsha. The arrests were carried out by the enforcement team of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade following an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects were caught while collecting large sums from unsuspecting drivers for emblem fees and other levies. However, some members of the group managed to escape upon sighting the enforcement officers.

Victims, including bus and truck drivers, decried the fraudulent activities, with one of them, Onyebuchi Onume, presenting evidence of the excessive fees extorted from them.

OCHA Brigade’s Managing Director, Comrade Celestine Anere, vowed that all those involved in the scheme would be apprehended and prosecuted. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating double taxation and eliminating illegal revenue collection in the state.
