Dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered in Ajalli, Anambra State, for the funeral of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders mourned his passing.

In a message delivered by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, President Tinubu described Nwosu’s death as a great loss to the nation and urged Nigerians to reflect on his contributions to democracy. He called for unity among citizens to uphold the democratic values Nwosu championed.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, also paid tribute, describing Nwosu as a symbol of peace and commending his role in organizing Nigeria’s freest and most transparent election in 1993. He urged Anambra residents to promote lasting peace in their communities in honor of the late professor’s legacy.

Nwosu’s son, Nnaemeka Nwosu, expressed pride in his father’s contributions to the country and thanked the federal government for the opportunity given to him to serve. He described his father as a peaceful man whose values remain a source of inspiration for his family.

During the funeral service, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, reminded the congregation of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of service to humanity. He praised Nwosu’s commitment to humanitarian causes and his legacy as a devout Christian leader.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including former Governor Peter Obi and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, underscoring the lasting impact of Nwosu’s work on Nigeria’s political landscape.
