Abducted Kaduna Anglican Priest Dies in Captivity; Wife Remains Held by Kidnappers

Date:

An Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, has reportedly died while being held in captivity by bandits, following his abduction alongside his wife in Kaduna State last month.

Venerable Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, and his wife, Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025.

A source confirmed the death of Venerable Achi on Wednesday night. There has been no immediate official update on the condition or status of his wife, Sarah Achi, who remains in captivity.

The incident was first reported on October 29, 2025, after the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded an exorbitant ransom of ₦600 million for the couple’s release. The bandits accompanied the demand with proof-of-life photographs that depicted the couple in distress alongside other captives, who appeared malnourished and chained.
