Christians Observe Ash Wednesday with Special Masses and Services in Awka

Date:

Special masses and services were held in various churches across Awka and its environs today to mark the beginning of the Lenten season, known as Ash Wednesday.

At Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, the Archdeacon of Amawbia Archdeaconry and vicar of the church, Venerable Jason Onyeakagbusi, urged Christians to use the season to subdue the desires of the flesh, shun immorality, and seek God’s guidance. He advised parishioners to allow the Holy Spirit to lead them in making godly decisions.

Similarly, at Saint Joseph’s Parish, Amawbia, Reverend Father Malachy Mmaduewesi encouraged Christians to embrace prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and care for the poor while abstaining from sin to attain holiness like Christ.

The administration of ashes and distribution of Holy Communion were key highlights of the observances.
