Ecobank Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Code 14 Labs to enhance coding education accessibility for schoolchildren across the country.
The collaboration, announced in Lagos, will provide affordable coding training and proficiency certification to students through Code 14 Labs’ interactive workbooks and trained teachers. Ecobank will leverage its extensive operational network across Nigeria and Africa to broaden access to digital education, while Code 14 Labs will supply the necessary educational technology and resources to ensure high-quality instruction.
Speaking at the MoU signing, Ecobank Nigeria’s Head of Consumer Banking, Adeola Ogunyemi, emphasized the bank’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and equipping young learners with essential tech skills.
“This partnership aligns with Ecobank’s mission to promote digital inclusion and prepare children for a technology-driven future,” Ogunyemi stated. Represented by Victor Yalokwu, Head of Consumer Products & Segments, she highlighted the bank’s MyFirst Account initiative, designed to instill financial literacy in children under 16, and its connection to digital education.
“By introducing students to coding through Code 14’s mobile app, we are not just teaching programming but also fostering problem-solving, creativity, and digital confidence,” she added.
Executive Director of Research and Technology at Code 14 Labs, Otaru Daudu, lauded the collaboration and expressed optimism about training 50,000 students to proficiency level in HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), key programming languages for global internet communication.
Daudu also noted that, with support from partners such as the British Council and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Code 14 Labs aims to scale digital education nationwide through technology-driven inclusion.
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in preparing Nigerian students for careers in the digital economy, fostering innovation, and equipping them with vital 21st-century skills.
