JAMB Uncovers 585 Fake A-Level Certificates in 2025, Four Suspects Arrested

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that it discovered 585 fake A-level certificates in 2025 alone, with four suspects already in police custody.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with JAMB staff held on April 2, 2025, in preparation for the 2025 Mock UTME and UTME. Details of the meeting were published in the JAMB weekly bulletin obtained by The PUNCH.

Prof. Oloyede condemned the increasing rate of fake A-level certificates, which he described as alarming. He said the menace prompted the establishment of the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System to manage and collect reliable data related to post-secondary education across the country.

He further disclosed that 13 of the fake certificates being investigated were uploaded through Professional Registration Centres, with four suspects already arrested and currently assisting police in tracking the leaders of the examination syndicates. The investigation also revealed possible internal collaboration within institutions aiding the fraudulent activities.

The Registrar added that reports of extortion from some CBT centres had also emerged, with candidates being charged for services meant to be free. He urged all staff to maintain integrity and avoid practices that could compromise the credibility of the Board.
