SIDEC and CISLAC Host Workshop on Tax Revenue Mobilization in Awka

The Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC), in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop in Awka, focusing on tax revenue mobilization, budget processes, tax policies, and leadership strategies.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, market leaders from major Anambra markets, civil society representatives, members of the Tax Justice and Governance Platform (TJ&GP), and media practitioners. Participants engaged in discussions, asked questions, and gained insights on tax-related issues.

In her opening remarks, Lady Ugochi Agalaba-Ehiahuruike, Executive Director of SIDEC and host of TJ&GP, described the workshop as a vital component of the Tax for Service project. She highlighted the campaign’s goal of enhancing tax compliance, especially in the informal sector, and emphasized that tax revenue is crucial for the government to provide essential public services.

Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chinyere Nwabachili, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Ubah, represented by State Director of Markets, Comrade Francis Iloduba, urged Anambra residents to fulfill their tax obligations to support the state’s development and improve social amenities.
