Soludo Confident of Landslide as APC, LP Candidates Emerge Amid Crisis

Date:

The political scene in Anambra was heated over the weekend as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) held primaries for the November 8 governorship election.

While APGA’s primary was a mere formality with Governor Soludo securing his position unopposed, LP’s election saw Dr. George Moghalu nominated, with a relatively smooth process. In contrast, APC’s primary was marked by intense political drama, including accusations of manipulation, surrogacy, and financial inducements. Nicholas Ukachukwu emerged as the APC candidate after several aspirants withdrew or resigned, citing threats and injustices.

Despite the internal turmoil, Ukachukwu promised to unify the party for the November election, declaring a shift from “godfatherism” to being the “father of the father.” Moghalu, on his part, emphasized his readiness to restore confidence in Anambra’s government.

Soludo, confident in his chances, boldly claimed that his party would sweep all 21 LGAs and even all 326 wards in the state. However, with legal battles looming, the main contest remains unpredictable as the candidates prepare to campaign across the state.
