Anambra State Unveils Second Phase of Open Government Partnership Action Plan

The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with UNICEF, has officially launched the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Action Plan II to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

The launch event, held in Awka, attracted participants from government ministries, UNICEF, civil society organisations, religious groups, town unions, and academia.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, noted that the successful execution of the previous OGP Action Plan paved the way for the current phase. She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting open, inclusive, and transparent governance under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

UNICEF representative, Mr Atthawoot Op Sangkharat, highlighted UNICEF’s ongoing support for the OGP initiative, especially in areas impacting children’s rights and vulnerable populations. He described the OGP framework as a strategic tool for improving service delivery in sectors such as education, health, and social welfare.

Other speakers, including Professor Collins Nwogwugwu, Mrs Ugochi Ehiahuruike, Mrs Eucharia Anaekwe, and Mrs Ugochi Freeman, praised the launch and the introduction of the Solution Lens Platform, which allows citizens to monitor government projects in real-time. They urged for increased awareness to ensure wider public access and engagement with the platform.
