Traffic Flow Improves in Onitsha Following Installation of Traffic Lights

Date:

Traffic conditions in Onitsha and surrounding areas are showing noticeable improvement, thanks to the strategic installation of traffic lights by the Anambra State Government.

An ABS News team that monitored the situation reported a significant reduction in gridlock at major roundabouts and junctions, including Ochanja, Borromeo, DMGS roundabout, Ekene Junction, Savoy, and Nkpor Junction. These areas were previously known for traffic congestion caused by unruly driving habits.

At Nkpor Junction, some road users including Ekene Adiele, Ekene Vincent, and Chidi Nweke expressed satisfaction with the improvement. They noted that the traffic lights have eased vehicle movement, though they also pointed out a few technical issues with the system at that junction.

Transporters Chidi Ede and Chibuzo Nwoke, speaking at the DMGS roundabout, praised the efficiency of the lights in regulating traffic. However, they lamented that some individuals still drive against the flow of traffic, causing frustration among other drivers.

ABS also noted that roadside traders around Ochanja and Nkpor Junction have been removed, contributing further to the improved traffic situation.
